I'm not sure how detailed I should be here, please forgive me.
With Auctioneer enabled, my auction deposits are triple what they would otherwise be. I'm not sure how long this has been going on, I identified it for certain over the last 24 hours.
Here's the what's happened/my troubleshooting steps:
Logged in on Alliance alt, in Gadgetzan. Had 36s only on me. Picked up mail, successful auction, +11g (and change) Went to Gadgetzan AH, proceeded to post: Gigantic War Axe of the Monkey 7g/9g. Thought I saw the deposit as 2g and change. Umbral Wand of Spirit 3g/4g. Thought I saw the deposit as 1g and change. Windchaser Wraps 1g/3g. Deposit was shown as 92s. Message popped up saying I couldn't afford to do that. Checked my gold, I had 1g and change left. So, somehow the Axe and Wand cost 10g in deposits between them.
I admit, I wasn't paying attention.
To check, I submitted another Gigantic War Axe of the Whale and the prompted deposit was 6g and change.
I logged out, disabled Auctioneer, and logged back in. Submitted the Axe, and the prompted deposit was 2g and change.
I submitted a helpdesk ticket. (The results of which were a GM telling me the AH was behaving properly and I needed to reset my UI by renaming the WTF/WDB/Interface folders) ....(called it a night).... Tonight I renamed the folders as suggested by the GM. Did not re-install any addons. Logged in, submitted the same Axe, prompted deposit was the 2g and change figure. Logged out, slowly started re-installing addons from the most current versions available(fresh downloads, not existing folders):
Between each, logging in and checking the Axe deposit price, remaining consistent at the 2g and change price until... I installed Auctioneer. Logged in. Did not scan. Submitted axe. 6g deposit.
Have I somehow done something wrong? All help/suggestions/smackdowns welcome.
Which tab was reporting the 6g deposit? Was it Blizzard's Auctions tab, or the Auctioneer Post Auctions tab? There is a known problem with Auctioneer's Post Auctions tab misreporting what the deposit will be for some small percentage of items. The actual deposit charged will be correct though.
In the WoW Auctions tab, it reports the higher deposit. In the Auctioneer tab, it displays the lower "correct" deposit, but actually charges me the higher deposit.
I tested this by submitting the Windchaser Wraps to each tab: WOW tab - 2g and change deposit. Auctioneer tab - 92s deposit. When I selected 'Post Auction' on the Auctioneer Tab, it told me I couldn't afford to do that (having 1g and change on me at the time.)
(For what it's worth - since resetting the WoW UI didn't actually do anything, I restored my UI settings from 2 days ago and a little bit of sanity. I've kept the 'new/clean' UI folders for troubleshooting/testing. I'm just leaving Auctioneer disabled. )
Variables not tested (but will tonight): - If error is consistent on other Alts/Factions/AH locations. (Will hop from Gadgetzan to IF tonight and cross-check that) - With Auctioneer disabled, if the deposit shown on the WoW Auction tab is correctly paid upon posting. (Will have to run a series of tests with a lower price item(s). ) - If error is only me, on my PC. (Will hand test item to friend with same Addon load to see if we can replicate it.)
I'm wondering if the neutral AH charge a higher deposit? I'm pretty sure they charge 15% for sales instead of the normal 5%. Perhaps this applies to deposits also? I've hardly used the neutral AH, so I'm sure someone else can speak to it better than I.
It would appear that I was noticing a couple of things all at once:
1. Neutral AH's DO charge a higher deposit. 2. The non Auctioneer tabs default to 8 hour auctions. 3. The known issue about the WoW tab in Auctioneer not showing the right deposit amount (but charging it correctly.)
I'm still not 100% certain that's all it is.. but I'm going to call it user error. =)
