Whenever gatherer saves data, the name of the herb/ore/whatever found is saved the same way it says in the clients language. This makes it nearly impossible to merge data from an English client with the data from one with another language. Same for Zones. Nodes are saved associated with the number of a zone. But the numbers vary from language to language.
My suggestion (and the idea for the addon I'm currently working on, to support gatherer ) is to save the data not by an ID given from the game client, but convert these values in a keyword, which is the same on every system. For example every node found in the western plaguelands (zone number 23 in English, 21 in French and 15 in German) would be saved as "wpl", and that's it. A German client would make "wpl" a 15, a French one a 21, and an English one a 23. The data would look the same on all systems.
This change would make the zonematch and corrections on the names of the nodes redundant. For example: darkshore was called darkshore too in German. Since the numbers are given alphabetically it had number 3. So "darkshore" on a German client would become a 3. A patch comes, and darkshore becomes the German Dunkelküste, and the number changes to 9. Who cares? the data is saved as "darkshore" anyway, just tell the new version of the addon to associate it with number 9. Same for herbs, ores and treasures. Changes in the names wouldn't be nesseccary any more, if all peaceblooms would be saved as "pb" on every client.
I'm currently trying to get used to LUA, to develop an addon taking care of this issue. It'll be called Debabel, and will be released on curse-gaming. If you're interisted please contact me: Email: Die_Backe@web.de ICQ#: 253518345
