Perhaps this is realm-specific, but whenever I try to sell something of which Auctioneer knows no auction history, the prices suggested (either the no-competition or vendor-markup) are way off usual prices. What do I do then? Naturally, I search for similar items, from a level below to a level above, and try to interpolate a proper price for my item.

Now, I've also coded it in: ctrl+alt+rightclick of an item in my inventory starts a search in the same category, from two levels below to two levels above the item's requirement. This helps me decide. <whine>AuctionFrameFilters are a b*tch to use.</whine>

I am wondering now, though - and hence this post - whether this couldn't be put into Auctioneer itself. As an option, naturally. Whenever Auctioneer would try to guess a price using vendor markup, instead it would do a search like described above - and, of course, notify the user that an interpolation-based pricing model is in effect.

Does this sound reasonable, or not at all?

Sounds like a good idea, create a trac ticket for it so we don't forget to implement it .
