Just started using Gatherer, but it would only log and mark for "non skill" types of gathering (chests, water barrel etc).
I traced the error to the fact that I had the addon "GatherSage [Emerald]" installed also. This modifies the tooltips for mining, herbs etc so that Gatherer does not recognise them and will not log. After disabling this addon, everything is fine :)

Using the latest version of Gatherer.
Just a heads-up for others using these two addons.

thanks for the tip, notified the GatherSage author about that (and since he's using Gatherer chances are he'll make the small change required to make these compatible).

September 28th and still no fix.

on the 12th in the ui.worldofwarcraft.com comments the developer said he would look into it but since he didnt actually use gatherer or any of the gathering mods it seemed it was low on his list of things to do.

He did say however, it was most likely caused by GatherSage altering the color of the tooltip name.

Kinda sad to let this addon go since it was one of my favorite mods. The text messages that you got when hitting certain skill levels was invaluable to me.

I know some are quick to "adopt" or branch addons with or without author permission.
I'm not very comfortable with that myself.

GatherSage is not abandoned or discontinued, just DSanai is at times slow with updates
(or even not very punctual with changes he has announced himself)

Still I'm a happy user of a few of his addons and I'd prefer to afford him time to come around
to GatherSage, before he has to compete with one more "(Continued)" or "(Improved)" version
    of HIS code.
That's not very appreciative of someone's work and it tends to drive authors away from mod authoring imo.

What I'm doing is a bit of a compromise without mass distributing someone's else's addon.
I have modified my local copy to make the addon more functional for myself.
Some of the changes are not minor or cosmetic and could be of use to others.
I have posted my package in the GatherSage comment section on ui.worldofwar.net
as a feature request with some of the legwork done,
and here (since one of the changes is relevant to Gatherer)
for users to be able to keep it until the official is fixed.

To tell the truth I see GatherSage-type tooltip modifications as a logical extension to Gatherer.

Similar to what MobInfo2 does by adding drops to Mob tooltips,
Gatherer could add stone and gem drops to node tooltips.
A database type addon like gatherer would even have the option to supply
actual % data for the nodes you have mined.

That would be perfect for me, although I'm not at all sure what it entails regarding
changes to Gatherer SavedVariables or the interface.
  2.
I'm not 100% sure, since its been a while since I've used gatherer, but I believe the current beta (2.9) has this functionallity already.

Updated the link above with preliminary TBC support (mining only)
Also has a bugfix for DSanai's version (lesser bloodstone baseskill)
a bugfix for Hakkari Thorium Vein and a couple sanity checks added.

Astaldo, out of curiosity, what modifications did this addon make to the first line of the node tooltip?

It was changing the resource name color according to your skill
comparatively to the skill required to mine/gather the resource.
(The code is still there, only commented out if you need to take a look at it).

I only ask because AFAIK, the colour change shouldn't be a problem, provided it is done with the text colour API rather than with the |c text colour tag.
