Ok so I'm completely nube and I've tried to read through all this stuff on the discussions and the wiki's but I'm confuscious on this one thing.

If I do a straight /btm scan will btmscan automatically buy items?

I read that you had to modify the addon so it wouldn't do that anymore because of blizzards request. And I'm fine with that because until I figure how how I want to configure it I wouldn't want it blowing all my gold while the prices of everything are in such flux due to the expansion. But from what I've read it seems like it would buy the items, and from playing with it using /btm dryrun I get the idea that if I wasn't doign a dryrun it would have bought these items.

If I walk up and do a straight Play button scan will it buy the items? or place a line with the items on the auction screen? or just notify me in the btmscan tab?

    Thanks :whorship:

no, BTM cannot buy anything automatically any more. a dialog pops up asking if you want to buy the item.

Is there plans to reincorporate the auto bid/buy?

I've updated the Bottom Scanner docs to clarify the point that it doesn't auto-bid/buy anything. After this I think we can ignore/delete posts that keep asking this question.

    Great work ElGuapo. 100 points.

But my experience from other forums where I have been a moderator... they will keep asking.

I don't think automatic bid/buyout would even be possible now, at least not without (prohibited) external mods - since TBC beta, PlaceAuctionBid must be triggered by a hardware event.

That is correct. I don't know if Blizzard had already decided to block automatic actions (like autobid) before BottomFeeder (the predecesor of BottomScanner that could do an autobid), but I have the feeling that BottomFeeder showed Blizzard the true power of automatic actions (since it really made a lot of gold for the people who used it) and what it might do if it was allowed (although support for BottomFeeder was wisely withdrawn by Norganna, other addon suites (like Wowecon) quickly came or had similar addons after BottomFeeder got known, so the tide was only stoppable by blocking autobid).

Is that bad: no, it prevents misuse by gold-farmers. Ok, I liked the autobid-functionality of BottomFeeder, since it made me a LOT of gold. But that proves the pudding. And basicaly the functionality is still there, but just one (manual) click away
