I am not connected to Auctioneer – I am just a user; but as a user I think we need to do a better job in telling the Auctioneer team of any problems we find.
If you don’t want to write up good problem reports, or unfamiliar with the concept – wait a week or 2 for a full release version.
1. If your problem doesn’t match the thread title – open a new thread. Writing about a different problem just confuses the issue.
2. Write good problem descriptions. A thread titled “Auctioneer doesn’t work†isn’t helpful. Use a title that helps ID the problem area.
3. Nobody can see your screen but you. A picture is worth a 1,000 words. If you think you need to do a screen print of the problem do it – But use jpeg to keep picture size down. Otherwise describe the problem!
4. Describe what you have installed, the versions, and what settings. a. I have installed CTMod – Full 10/12, auctionerpack 442, Fitzwidgets Reagencost 1.8.1, huntershelper 1.8.2, guildentiper 1.8.2, Adspace 1.8.1, flatkhaos 2545 b. I have embedded turned on for auctioneer, informant and Enchantrix. c. I started with a clean Auctioneer DB.
5. Tell what instructions you used. If you did a percentles scan – what was the setting? How can somebody else re-create the problem?
6. If it is a display problem – disable other mods. Best way to do it clean is exit WOW, copy your WTF and Interface folder to a safe location. (I recommend copying those always before installing any Mod changes) Now delete all mods but the auctioneer / Enchantrix / enhtooltip / informant / and stubby directories. Re-run WOW. Problem still occurs – good, add that to your report. a. If it doesn’t, then another MOD is conflicting. Exit WOW, and start copying Interface folders back. See what happens. Rinse – repeat until you find the conflict. b. When your finished testing and want to go back to your safe version, delete the WTF and Interface folders in your WOW directory. Copy your backups back to the WOW directory. c. Use rotating backups. I have a pre 1.8 directory for my WTF / Interface, a post 1.8 directory, and now a safe beta directory with different copies of the WTF / Interface combo directories. By deleting whatever is in the WOW directory and restoring those in combination you can always try things out and be safe.
Auctioneer team, if this is out of line, feel free to delete this.
If everyone delivered reports like this, it would make our jobs a lot easier I can't begin to stress the importance of including the exact version you're having problems with. That way we don't have to chase down bugs that might no longer be there
