Hey guys! I can't believe I've been playing WoW for as long as I have and never come across these discussion forums. I've been using Auctioneer for a LONG time, but I've never taken the time to really delve into the statistics and gold-making capability of the program. I'm an engineer during the day and naturally I'm facinated by statistics and being able to apply them to all kinds of situations. I've made it a pet project of mine to really hunker down and absorb all the information that I can about the AH in WoW, how it works, how to "play the market", and so on and so forth! Like I said, I'm only now really starting to realize the powerful tool that you've created in Auctioneer, and I'm going to spend the next hour or two reading about all the other addons you have here (Enchantrix, BtmScanner, etc.). My question to you guys is, where do I start?! This place seems chock-full of information and I'm overwhelmed with how much there is to learn and absorb. I'm starting out from scratch here, and I want to take full advantage of any opportunity to learn how you guys do what you do and the math/science/reasoning behind it. I'm here to learn, now who can hand me a syllabus? :) I have so many questions I would just love to be able to learn from you guys any way that I can thruogh emails, messengers, whatever :) Thanks for taking the time to read this and I can't wait to get started. Thanks again!
Hiya's and welcome to the forums. It sounds like you've been a user of the 'old' version for along time. What I suggest (I may be wrong you may have it already) is to download the latest preview build of the advanced suite and you can run auctioneer classic side by side with advanced for awhile while you learn how aadv works. (Kinda assuming you don't have advanced)
Your background actually makes this a lot easier than you(or most) would have trying to get into this a bit deeper. I suggest delving into the addon itself, keep a copy of vi or gedit (errrr notepad in windows) open to jot down some questions you have about different functions. Then open up the forums with all of these questions in mind and start searching. The wiki we have is chock full of information that can also assist you in getting your feet a little deeper in the water. Keep in mind that the entire project is volunteer and writing documentation often times takes longer than writing the code for the function. That being said our wiki has gaps, and is not 100% 'up to date' and the forums here are great for filling in the rest or asking questions you haven't been able to locate.
Feel free to ask any questions you have about settings or how aadv and its modules function we are happy to assist you in any manor possible. It can be overwhelming but I do think the best place to get going a bit more is to fully understand the settings that aadv has to offer (and there are alot so don't get discouraged just take it step by step)
