I have just started using this (actually I though I had it installed along with the auctioneer/enchanttrix but must have missed it ) and i am getting the hang of it.. but I might have a small suggestion for you.
I have recently been playing in ugro crater where the infamous Soil and power crystals are.
now as i thought that gatherer wasn't working(corrction never installed!) I started adding in iconed notes via mapnotes.
we have 4 types of power crystal'
    red
    green
    blue
    yellow
BUT.. the icon that comes up on the map is only a blue crystal for all of them.. is it possible to add a red/green/yellow version so it is easier to see them on the map?
there must be a way for the game to see them as different colours.. so is there way way to use that to show a different colou icon for each.
as there is a quest(quite easy) to get a formula to make certain combinations of colours make a specific protection/buff(6 in total) ... which is repeatable...if you want to make one not another.. you would need to hunt out ceetain clours over another. at the moment they are all lumped together.. thus making it hard to target the right area to find the colours you need.
my mapnotes one is looking very colourful(had to be a bit creative with the limited icons) but I can see to a degree the general locations to search for say blue and red ones.
the usefulness of the bloodpetal and soil icons is fantastic! my mapnotes were too laborious to really work well.
BTW.. is there a way to auto fill an icon without actually click/looting it? does it set to place an icon on the map somewhere , if you get close to it?
I have only started playing with it I agree.. but it is already making life alot easier

actually this is trivial, in fact the name is processed in Gatherer to ignore color which is slightly more complex.

Since the color is not tied to specific location and is generated randomly when a crystal spawn (whatever it's location) keeping track of the different colors would be useless (not to mention it would clutter the database).

hm ? could you perhaps clarify this ?

well actually in ugro the crystal are in the same place all the time.. even the crystal does not disapear when looted. so when you find a red crystal.. it will always be a red crystal.. i have not seen the in other areas( not really looked) but my guess is they do the same there.
there are 6 specific combinations of different colours of gems.. depending on which buff you want.. being able to target the specific colour would be more than a bonus.. without knowing which colour you are aiming for it sort of defeats hte object of having an icon on the map to point you to it if you want to get several of the same buffs... some of the crystals are harder to find.. namely the yellow ones... if you want a specifiv herb ... that herbs icon will be up on the screen.. not a generic "a Herb". I would have thought that all items in the game have a unique reference.. even to differentiate colour.. otherwise the game would be putting a red crystal to be looted out of a yhellow one etc
ATM I was using mapnotes to add a different coloured icon, to corespond to the color of the gem..(not percefet but close to doing what it it do) I found it extremely useful...
I was going to go over to the gatherer way of showing them.. but I am disapointed that they do not tell the differnt colours apart.
even for the recipies which are used by blacksmiths.. the color of the crystal is important.. as diferent colours are used in different recipies.
if it is impossible.. well ok.. I will have to revert to mapnotes where i can at least make a note.. and set a coloured icon that will help... just it is time consuming in a dangerous area.. and the icons they use are quite large.
I personally think it would be a great addition

nope, actually all colors can spawn on a same spot (I've been farming these for some months, believe me, I've seen the pattern).

if a crystal doesn't disppear when you loot it means that 2 spawn occured on the same spot (which happens when the long and short respawn timer for the sets happens to tick together and randomly select the same spawn coordinates).

yes, thank you, I'm aware of what the crystals are used for.

it's not that it's impossible to differenciate the color (we cut it out from the gather line), it's just that it's pointless since the color really IS random.

sorry mate.. that last post did come over a bit sarky..! not intentional... i was not aware of a different drop of crystal coming out of any particular crystal node.. up to now.. I have seen red from red.. green from green etc.. and no disapearing of the node.
I get an idea.. and take it to heart sometimes.. and try and find ways to get it to work. if this is as randon as you discribe.. then i will not put push for it any further.. and i will then carry on with the iconfrom gather as its all encompassing blue... adding in an icon by hand using mapnotes is just to long and laborious.. and by what you say.. pointless. sa they may respawn differently later!
oh well.. back to the drawing board...
would have been nice if it was not that way / sigh

Edit [Islorgris]: deleted the double post

    no worries

personnally I only farm them for the restauration crystal, but I always do a clean sweep (usually net something like 80-90 crystals in about an hour, but I'm doing the mines too), the surplus being proposed to guild mates or the auction house if nobody I know needs them (they do sell pretty good, not very high but it saves some time for other people).
