Since the 2.4 patch, I have had a problem with lockups or DC's when I attempt to hearth or port from the new Isle zone back to Outlands. When I disabled all my mods, the problem went away. After experimenting a bit to narrow down which addon was causing the problem, I found that the problem only occurs when I have Gatherer turned on. I am currently running the latest (3.1 released 3/26/08) available for download and the problem is still occurring. I also went and checked the Blizz bug forum and found that I am not alone in my problem or findings. Below is a link to a thread showing other people with the same problem and reaching the same conclusion for cause.

I had the exact same problem, I would only freeze when i would try to port to and from silvermoon,or from sunwell to shatt it seemed. i totally deleted my wtf and addons folder and started over fresh with updated mods still with the same problem. I did the same as Minotaurcd and narrowed it down to the gatherer mod. Hope you can fix this mod soon,i cant live without it

I will take a look as soon as I get a chance. I have been experiencing a similar issue since before the 2.4 patch, but I haven't had time to narrow it down to anything in particular.

I would also just like to chime in that I have also had this issue with Gatherer 3.1, again only happens we zoning in the Silvermoon area or the new Isle.

I am not sure if it's related but I just saw this on MMO-Champion relating to Combat Log Spam causing issues when zoning:

    ====================================================================
    Quote from: Slouken (Source)
How to stop framerate lag due to refiltering when you zone:

Issue: When you zone from an instance to the outside world, the combat log goes through a massive loop, pasting every combat log message in the last 5 minutes.

Why would I want to do this fix?

    * You have framerate issues when zoning
    * You have recently been in a combat sessions where there are many combat log events (e.g. raid boss encounters)

    Instructions
    1. Select the “Everything” tab
    2. /script Blizzard_CombatLog_CurrentSettings.settings.showHistory = false

This will prevent all combat log messages from being re-filtered when you zone.

    Side-Effects
This will also prevent you from seeing old messages with the “Everything” tab.

    How to Undo
If you accidentally set this on the wrong tab, select the broken tab and type:
    /script Blizzard_CombatLog_CurrentSettings.settings.showHistory = true

These settings will be saved when you logout.

Same problem here. Are we all Vista 64 bit users? Just to throw a thought into this. The transport is now instant whereas before there was a load screen. Perhaps Gatherer is not loading the database info fast enough and therefore the client "hangs" so maybe the fix is this; the entire gatherer database will now have to be loaded into memory for both the base and Burning Crusade games. Just a wild guess. Yes it would take more memory but if it works, there's the fix.

    Thanks,

    Mellindan

No, Macintosh has the same problem with Gatherer (though there could be a Blizzard bug causing this).
Seems to happen with portal from Shatt to SIlvermoon as well.

And I don't think Gatherer does anything with the combat log, so I doubt that issue is related to this one.

Far more likely is a bug in the world map, minimap or zone changed handling.

    Vista Ultimate 32 user here.

Only started after I updated to Gatherer 3.1 early this afternoon - the previous version of Gatherer didn't do this.

There are several threads popping up in Tech Support now regarding Gatherer 3.1 & QuestHelper both crashing wow on teleport/hearth from BE/Sunwell areas to other parts of the world (usually Shat).

I love this mod, and can't live without it, so I'll be reverting back to the previous version i was using.

Thank you for maintaining a great mod!!

(EDIT: More threads popping up. Added another.)

I'm an XP Media Center Edition user, so it's not a Vista-unique issue. I am also using 3.1 of Gatherer. I can't say for sure if it was happening under a prior version because I updated all my mods when the patch came out before logging on, so I never tried returning from the Isle to Shatt while using an older version of Gatherer.

XP professional user here and just had it happen for the first time.

Just wanted to note that I'm an XP 32-bit user here, and have also seen the freezing twice so far since 2.4 when trying to port from Shat to Silvermoon.

Same problem here with XP and french wow.
I test only with TP between Shattrath and SM, but I "crash" during the first or second TP.

A problem with the zone number certainly changed by blizzard due to the new area ?

No, I was seeing this problem before 2.4 came out. It occurs when zoning to or from outland to one of the other expansion areas (and so you don't see a loading screen). I didn't attribute it to Gatherer at the time, and I'm not sure what might be causing the problem.

    Esamynn et al.,

According to the forum on the Blizz site, many folks are having this happen with no mods what so ever installed.

Not to say that this could not be from "one of ours" but, from the sound of things this is not.

Perhaps this is related to the video card? Since, apparently OS has been mostly ruled out as well.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding that this is obviously a complex issue.

    =)

Using the portal from Shattrath to SIlvermoon causes the lockup.
Hearthing from Silvermoon to Shattrath causes the lockup.

When it locks up, the game graphics stop, the app stops responding to events, and it keeps repeating a short sound loop (audio is in a separate thread).
After 10 minutes, it's still locked. (killing it)

The app is still active somewhere involving a lot of single precision math and a few calls to strlen. (I'd love to get symbols for the app)
At least part of the active code is a table hash function (not sure if it's Lua or not).

I tried commenting out various event handling routines in Gatherer.
It's nothing in Gatherer.Event.OnEvent (I commented the whole thing out).
    Nor in Gatherer.Event.OnLoad.

Disabling the coroutines in astrolabe seems to prevent the lockup, or having the coroutines return immediately.
Returning immediately from just the full update coroutine prevents the lockup.

I'm wondering if its say a mixture of:

Gatherer trying to load the Outland nodes file, while at the same time the Combatlog's going nuts trying to reload the last 5 minutes of combatlog junk from the entire area for Sunwell.....

Too much strain on the game engine?

I noticed i did have the combatlog issue last night, but since i only have chat window up, I didn't really notice it so I didn't care..

Can someone try this combatlog fix to see if WoW still locks up when hearthing from Isle->Shat?
    http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=8486

I'm still at work (boo), and can't test it yet..

EDIT: Wrote crash instead of locking up. Need sleep, 12 hours at work sucks.

Crashes are another issue - not related to gatherer (as far as we know).

The only issue we're discussing here is an application lockup (stops responding to events, stops updating the graphics).

The transporter orb to and from UC doesn't show the lockup.

Only mage portals, summons, teleports and hearths between shattrath and silvermoon (possibly the isle as well, but I haven't tested it).

Actually, it's been locking up for me regardless of where I'm hearthing from.

    No Gatherer, no lockup.
Gatherer 3.1 = lockup when I hearth. My hearth is set to Shatt. I'll see if I can get a guildie to standby with a port and I'll change my hearth for a bit and see if I only get the lockup when hearthing to Shatt.

This is an important update for all addons that depend on Astrolabe - does the library have an announcement list of any sort? I'd rather not have to rely on me or my users making explicit checks for new versions.

Thank you in advance for the info!

First off, I would like to apologize to everyone who uses Astrolabe for letting this bug get into the trunk. That was an oversight on my part due to laziness, and it should never have happened. I was too eager to get the coroutine "upgrade" pushed out.

Not at the moment. I keep meaning to setup forums, and a proper website for Astrolabe.

One option that is available to you at the moment, is if you happen to be open to idling on the Freenode IRC network, you are welcome to join #astrolabe there. I try to keep folks in there up-to-date, and I will continue to do so, at least until I get something better up.
