I've noticed for a while now, maybe since the update that was around the release of 2.4.0, that the info EnhTooltip displays from informant and enchantrix show twice if I view the tooltip of the item from the tradeskill window or Appraiser tab. If I look at it from my bags or from a chat link, it shows fine. It's just when I'm viewing through a another window.
Confirmed. With just Auc-Adv Suite of addons enabled, items in Appraiser have double the info (item level, vendor, stack size, class and use). It does seem that the default tradeskill windows do not double the info, but if I enable Skillet (the Lil'Sparky Branch) then the tooltips double once more.
can you take a screenshot for me? also of your addons screen with items disabled. i just tested, and have no problems with appraiser or the tradeskill window.
you may also want to kill all your old auctioneer files and do a clean reinstall.
I remember an older problem with there being some debug information in LibTooltip that was turned on, but I just checked the current release and it's not enabled in that. (It was showing Item Level 3 times I think.) This doesn't seem to be exactly the problem you are getting though.
I just took this screenshot after moving my WTF folder and installing a fresh Auc-AdvSuite-3104. The only thing I changed was to embed the Informant info into the tooltip. When not embeded, it only shows once.
I know you also asked for a shot of my Addons screen with things disabled, but I have 207 items (half are Ace Libs), so you'll just have to trust that I disabled all, and then only checked addons belonging to Auc-Adv. :)
ahh, you have the tooltip embedded, that was the key piece of missing info. Go ahead and add a JIRA issue for this, and be sure to specify the tooltip is embedded.
I don't make any promises as to how quickly it will be addressed. When a dev has time and is so inclined, they will work on it. If lots of people vote for it, it sometimes increases in priority as well.
Just to properly set your expectation, this is a relatively minor issue which probably doesn't personally affect any of the devs (I don't think any of us use embedded tooltips), so most likely it won't be addressed with great fervor unless it catches someone's fancy. There is a back channel effort to switch our tooltip lib, so it might get addressed whenever that happens, too.
So in other words, if the a bug doesn't affect a dev's gameplay, ignore the bug? Sounds like a pretty craptastic way to maintain a mod that thousands use....
But whatever. For a quick fix, just turn off Informant tooltip displays. Most modders will have at least one other mod that can display the same info until this gets addressed (if ever).
We each have a limited amount of time to spend, and that time is all volunteer. Devs tend to work on some balance between what is interesting to them, and what is urgently needed. Obviously, bugs that effect us as well end up being both more interesting and more urgent. Bugs that are cosmetic and do not effect any of us are unlikely to be either. That's just the way human nature is.
Sorry you don't like the answer, but I'm giving it to you straight so that your expectations are in the proper place. If you're interested in joining up with us to help work on bugs that YOU find interesting, please do. We'd love the help.
Hey, I appreciate the straight answer in any case. Sure as hell beats most authors beating around the bush when it comes to bugs they don't think are important enough. =D
To ChaosInc: See, I don't want the three or four addons I'd need to replace Informant/EnhTooltip with. And since the issue only occurs at the auction house or when I look at items through the tradeskill window, I'm not annoyed enough to look for replacements. I also like the way Informant displays info better than some other mods.
I also understand that while I don't know much about lua, I do know enough to know that even a minor issue can take a while to fix, even if it's simple. Plus, if they're planning on overhauling EnhTooltip for LichKing or just whenever. This non-mod breaking issue can stay off the stove a while longer. ;)
