I have both vendor and DE setup in bottomscanner. Generally, it works fine but I have seen this a few times where it buys for vendor even though DE would yield higher profits. See the screenshot...
If you hold down alt you should be able to see more details about how it's comparing the two.
If you look at the bottom of the tooltip the two valuation results are displayed. According to your settings Vendor _is_ a better idea than disenchant.
Valuation is the amount below which Btmscan will buy something (presumably to give the minimum needed profit to make it worth while) At 5g55s30c: Vendor yields 2g 97s 57c excess profit DE yields 2g 83s 65s excess profit
You got ~14s more excess profit from vendor than from DE
I understand what you are saying, but look higher in the tooltip. The sell to vendor value is 9g52s. It seems to me that there may be a discrepency in how the vendor valuation is calculated.
Valuation ~= value Valuation means the maximum that btmscan will buy at. From your tooltip, it looks like you require 1g minimum to buy for vendor (9g52-8g52 = 1g), so that 1g is your minimum profit, whereas your minimum ave profit to take the risk of buying for DE is 3g 38s 53c.
While it's true that it looks like you'd make more on the DE, the vendor is guaranteed immediate profit, while the item might DE into one of the less valuable mats, and it might take a while to post, allowing the price to change in the meantime, so the DE profit is less reliable, and the gold is "stuck" in the meantime.
Of course, if you think that that example should be bought for DE instead of vendor, my suggestion is to change your minimum profit settings, thereby changing the valuations, thereby changing the balance between those two (and other) evaluators.
Remember, with comparing two or more ways to produce profit from an item, there's no cut-and-dry way to say "This method is better than any other in all cases." It's always a matter of balancing the benefits and risks inherent in the various choices. Some people like the smaller, but immediate trickle of vendor, while others will hold onto items for a long time hoping it sells for 10x vendor, risking paying more in deposit costs than it'll earn when it finally sells.
frozndevl I've noticed some weirdness in how the keyboard modifiers are working... The tooltip won't change once it's been created so try holding down alt and then mousing over the item. Or try shift if that doesn't work... What should be happening is that you'll get more brown lines that go through the steps taken to get the valuation and show everything that's been subtracted from the main cost.
Generally the things removed to make a valuation are: Your minimum profit in gold Your minimum profit in percent Auction house relisting costs (0 for enchanting and vendor of course) Auction house cut from profit
