    All,

As we prepare for the "official" launch of Auctioneer Advanced, one of the most important things to have is a good set of "default" settings.

Of course, the current settings are decent but we think that the folks who have been using Auctioneer Advanced for some time can really help us to help those who are "new to the scene", so to say. Many of the advanced

To this end, we ask that you take some screen shots of your settings.

    1. Open the Auction Advanced configuration, then position the settings so that as many can be seen as possible.
    a. For Windows, use the the "Print Screen" button
    b. For those Mac folks, the command is "Command + Shift + 3", or you can use the ever-handy http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/business/screenshotplus.html

    2. The Screenshots will then be available in the ..\WorldofWarcraft\Screenshots folder.
*Please try to keep the images as the png / jpg type - bmp and such take up a lot more space.

    3. Be sure to select each portion of the sub menu, including scrolling down if needed.

    4. Once you have the screenshots, something such as Paint.Net or even Paintbrush can be used to cut and paste the settings section of each image.
    a. Please try to keep the settings in order, from left to right on the "combined" image.
    Something like:
    Page 1
    1 2 3
    4 5 6
    Page 2
    7 8 9
    10 11 12
    etc

    b. By using some clever placement, all of the settings should be able to fit on a few pages.

    5. Now that you have these settings that are worth their bits in gold, upload them to http://Up.Norganna.Org
    a. Be sure to record the URL that is assigned to each image and then create a post below containing the links to your images.

Thank you so very much for your assistance making Auctioneer the best it can be,

    Nikk :shades:

    All,

Okay, since Screen Shots are a bit time-intensive, let us try something different.

When not in game go to your ..\WorldofWarcraft\WTF\Account\<Your_WoW_Account_Name>\SavedVariables directory. You know, the one folder that every person who plays WoW should be backing up as often as possible. =)

What we need are the following Lua files:
    - Auc-Advanced.lua
    - Any recently updated Auc-Util-<name>.lua
    - BTMScan.lua

Note for those using MS Windows Vista: Your settings can be in the WTF folder and, or, in \Users\<Windows_User_Account_Name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<WorldofWarcraft_Account_Name>\SavedVariables

Now that you have the files:
    - Simply compress the files into one
-- You can use 7-zip, WinZip, or any of the included compressors - anything that will provide one of the standard zip file formats.
    - Upload the resultant file to http://Up.Norganna.Org
    - Create a post that includes the link that is provided when you upload the compressed file

We really can use the input from those who use Auctioneer Advanced. One of the most frequent questions is "how do I set this up". By taking a couple of minutes, you can help us to help everyone!

    Many thanks in advance,

    Nikk :shades:

If this is still an active request for settings info, I'll add mine (after the WoW servers are back up). In the meantime, I'd like to suggest that "less is more" especially if you're brand new to using Auctioneer and/or Auc-Advanced. I felt that once I started turning off some modules and tooltip display options, I started to get a better feel for what AA was trying to tell me. Conversely, if I were more experience with AA and WoW itself, as long as I knew where to go to turn things back on within the settings and/or chat command line, I'd probably be ok if a majority of options/modules were off by default.

I should point out that due to my play style preference I don't actually intend to use AA all that much during a given play session as I'd rather play the PvE game than the AH so to speak - so perhaps I'm not your target audience for this type of feedback.

I took a nose-dive directly into Norganna's development files at http://zip.norganna.org/ and I am now running:
    Auctioneer-ALL-r3286
    Libs-ALL-r98

Upon installation and setup, I deleted or disabled the following addons, libraries, or files from those two packages:
    Auctioneer
    !nLog
    build.conf

This may make my submission invalid for your purposes, but I couldn't resist the bleeding edge...

I'm still working on setting up preferences/options within the game, but currently I have uploaded settings files to:

    http://up.norganna.org/show.php/DaDHj4/SavedVariables-Aesir-20080730.zip
    (argh...clickify me! I command it!)

It may be helpful to know why I chose certain settings, to better weigh my feedback (and determine if it's relevant). My initial goals with these settings (in no order of priority) is to have:
    1) shorter tooltips. I love the new (I think) panel option to turn on/off selectively when and where enhanced tooltips are displayed. (Bag, Bank, etc.).
    2) BTMScan scanning only for "Vendor" buyouts (not bids). I don't generally 'twink' my lowbie alts, but when just starting a new character, buying el cheapo low end items for a quick vendor resale is like a gold mine. An extra 10 or 20 silver to a new character is like winning a lottery.
    3) Turn off Compact UI. I prefer the more standard UI, but I also don't know what (if any) functionality I lose out on by not using the Compact UI.

I'm completely confused at the moment about how to get back some functionality I may have inadvertantly turned off with my completely clean install of r3286. I previously dragged an auction item to the auction UI panel and AA would suggest a starting bid and buyout value. At the moment, I get no buyout value suggested, so I'm still exploring the options to see where this is configured. I may post a new set of settings files if/when I get this configured correctly.

With all the options I've turned off, you may wonder why I use AA at all. To help answer that question, I think the features of the packages I find of highest utility to a new user are:
    * Disenchanting information. I love knowing what an item might disenchant into.
    * Enhanced Tooltip and/or Informant telling me if something is sold at a vendor or not (e.g., I save coin by not buying recipes resold on AH that are available by a few limited vendors)
    * the ability to relocate the AH UI panel, and
    * the ability to use suggested pricing as a baseline recommendation to help get a feel for my realm's economy.

Apologies for the wall of text, but AA is one of a very few addons I use, so I am motivated to see it further developed and improved. The biggest improvement I'd like to see at this point is to know how best to get item database info updated. For example, there are some things that Informant (I think) don't realize are used in certain recipes. I'd like to see some module created that would somehow identify based on known recipes (from Ackis Recipe List maybe?) whether or not Informant data needs to be updated corrected. The thought of having to eye-ball recipes and double-check tooltip info makes me sob quietly to myself. But I digress...

Actually, that was AC doing it there. AA uses the Appraiser tab, which has two different layouts, the "Simple View" and "Full View"

We're looking into getting Informant updated. We had someone quite a while back who started on it, then disappeared without leaving us anything right when he said he was almost done :( However, work has restarted on that.

Ok, since I'd posted that last comment I'd found something that really intrigued me... Auc-db and it's related executable from auctioneerdb.com. Is this what we're talking about? Because I'd submitted some data to it yesterday!

It looks nice but the first update ate over 500mb of RAM during it's export. Also, I found a bug (where you can't re-expand the left side menu pane if you'd closed it, unless you re-launch the app). I have some thoughts on the .exe UI (about how to reduce number of clicks to do what it needs to do) but I've held off on submitting a JIRA report on bugs and feature requests on auctioneerDB until I find out if it's actively being worked on and intended for wide-scale use.

auctioneerdb.com is not us. It's a third-party site that offers a supplementary service for auctioneer users.

Our work to this end has mostly been to negotiate with the various info site to get permission either to crawl them for the info, or to get regular data packages from them.

Yowzaa. Ok, I was hesitant to install an .exe for a WoW addon anyway. I can uninstall auctioneerdb.exe but, just to be clear, is there then any reason for me to have Auc-DB loading (or is it's sole reason for existence to serve as the data collection module for auctioneerdb.com)?

For reference, I got Auc-DB from this site, at:
    http://zip.norganna.org/auctioneer/Auc-Db/

(If I've any more questions about this, I'll take it over to another topic/forum to help keep this thread on-topic. Thanks for the responses so far though!)

I believe Rockslice was confusing it with a website that used to shared Auctioneer Data.

Auc-DB Is one of norgannas projects to allow people to look at/export there auctioneer Data, not really what we are using for informant thou.

    Rundown of my suggested defaults:

    In Core Options - General:
    >Display Scan Data Tooltip - on - this provides useful general data on one line
    >Only Show Exact - on - having this off would cause confusion
    >Force Load Scan Data - off - having this on by default might cause logon problems with people with a lot of DB addons on slower computers
    >enable all other checkboxes - these are useful to people starting. The post-scan summary might be a bit annoying, but they at least know something's going on.
    >processing - 50 - high enough not to have processing take forever on faster computers, low enough to ensure no D/Cs because of it
    >market pricing error - .8% - good enough for someone starting out, or just wanting basic price info. Advanced users will probably move this down

    Stat Modules:
    >Don't display tooltip info
    >Have one line (most important line) be enabled by default if they turn tooltip data on
    >Multiply by stack size - on

    Filter Modules - Basic
    >Enable Use - on
    >Ignore own auctions - off - don't want new users wondering off the bat why their auctions aren't showing up in the snapshot
    >Minimum Quality - 1 - No need to have vendor trash data
    >Min Item Level - 0 - Some useful items have very low ilevels

    Filter Modules - Outlier
    >Enable everything - some of the most frequently poisoned prices are on blue/purple Enchant mats
    >Min Seen count - 20
    >Set % limits all to 300% - Anything over this is very likely to be an attempt at poisoning, a typo, or somebody with absolutely no clue what the going price is

    Matcher Modules - BeanCount
    >Enable - off - This module can have some big effects, so we want having it on to be deliberate
    >markdown/markup - both at .1% - keep it as conservative as possible to start with
    >min/max - 50%/150% - prevent the price from moving too much
    >Show history - on
    >other options off - these are more advanced options

    Matcher Modules - Undercut
    >Enable - on
    >Max Under Market Price - -20% - Fairly conservative, but large enough to show that it's working
    >Max Over Market Price - 10% - Again, conservative, but large enough to show that it's working
    >Undercut - 1% - Most users will want to only barely undercut their competition

    Util Modules - AH Window-Control
    >Allow movable - on
    >Remember position - off
    >Protect - off
    >AH scale - 1
    >CompactUI font change - 0

    Util Modules - Appraiser
    >Show Appraisal in tooltips - ON - very useful one-line info
    >Show Own Auctions - on
    >Coloring options - all on
    >Allow alt-clicking inventory items - on
    >Allow alt-clicking links - off - more advanced usage
    >select next item after posting - off - tries to force user into posting in a specific order
    >Show tooltip help - on
    >Default pricing model - Market
    >Alternate pricing model - Vendmarkup
    >Matching default - on
    >Default Listing time - 48h
    >Default Stack Size - Full - don't start users off by posting everything in singles
    >Default number of stacks - 1 - make it hard for Appraiser to "run away"
    >Starting bid calculation - 10%
    >Subtract deposit cost - on
    >Vendor price as minimum - on
    >Rounding - off

    Util Modules - AskPrice
    >the current defaults for this are good, IMO

    Util Modules - AutoMagic
    >Chat Spam - on - if we're doing stuff, let the user know
    >Deposit costs - don't display
    >All features off by default - these stray into doing functions that beginning users might not want to do, and don't expect Auctioneer to perform

    Util Modules - CompactUI
    >Enable - optimum would be to have this off, but have a button on browse panel that lets you turn it on without relog
    >remove smaller denominations - off
    >show required bid - on - this is more useful than current bid, IMO
    >Prevent other modules from changing display - off

    Util Modules - EasyBuyout
    >All function off, with key modifiers on Shift - this falls under the category of actions new users aren't expecting
    >buy/bid limits - 10g

    Util Modules - ItemSuggest
    >Display - on - Very useful, single line that isn't covered by anything else
    >weights - all at 100
    >Include Deposits - on - 48h
    >Include Brokerage - on
    >Ave # of relistings - 3

    Util Modules - PriceLevel
    >Tooltip - on
    >Change the color of Items in AH - on
    >Opacity - 20%
    >Use gradient - on
    >Price valuation - Appraiser
    >Price Level basis - Buyout or bid
    >Blue/Green/Yellow/Orange/Red - 0/50/80/110/200 - combined with the undercut settings suggested, this corresponds to "less than halfprice"/"can't undercut"/"can undercut"/"Too high to undercut"/"Double marketprice"

    Util Modules - ScanFinish
    >Have it play the AucClassic sound

    Util Modules - ScanProgress
    >Show - on
    >Leave it shown at end - on

    Util Modules - VendMarkup
    >300

In regards to what info should be displayed in the tooltip by default, and keeping in mind the average user just wants the best price, I'd suggest the following:

    Appraiser (Market)
    Simple --- Average MBO
Histogram --- Median (with both individual and stack price)

That makes the tooltip three lines and gives the 'Average Joe' a good starting point with mainly intuitive info.

Going outside the box a little, how about a setting in AA proper with three options: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced tooltips. Basic would display only a single price to the user - thus preventing confusion. Intermediate would display one line per statistics, or some such. Advanced would show the full tooltip.

Each stat would thus have to support the second two options (check the option, and provide either a single line or the full amount), plus one module (appraiser probably) would be responsible for prividing the basic tooltip.

I'll withhold comment about which stats should be enabled by default until I've had more time to think about it.
    • CommentAuthorKinesia
    • CommentTimeAug 5th 2008

For stats enabled by default I wouldn't actually use Simple.
It's easy to use, yes, but it's also easy to mess up. It is bad for high volume items since it only uses a set number of data points.
If someone posts a lot of things high on one day Simple may not be able to even keep the previous day in memory, so it can be manipulated by a single person potentially.

For the most basic version I'd suggest enabling Histogram (Similar to Simple but without that one flaw.) and Sales.
Sales will show nothing in the beginning, but as the user sells more items it will start showing them their sales history in the tooltip.
In this way it can grow with the user and shouldn't be confusing since it directly reflects the actions they have taken themselves.
It is also the most accurate stat we have since we know for certain those items have sold at that price in the past.

So while I mostly agree with Dinesh I think there should be 2 stats enabled by default. Histogram and Sales. When first installing it will behave as if there is only a single stat though.

Kinesia, I think you may be a bit confused. StdDev is the one with the fixed number of datapoints that can be overwhelmed.
Simple keeps a running 3/7/14 day averages

Hmmm... Ok. I've seen Simple get poisoned by extreme prices far more often than StdDev though. Odd.
It doesn't change my opinion on which ones to use though.
