You might not want to talk too loudly about using wowmatrix around addon developers. The devs here have been pretty mellow about it, but there are many, many devs that really don't like it.

It leeches the addons from other sites, and rehosts them itself, without permission from the addon's authors, circumventing their right to determine the mode of distribution of their addons. This becomes a particular problem for addon authors who host their own addons and depend on ad revenue from page views to pay for their server, etc. Wowmatrix redistributes, without permission, the addon, eliminating any potential profit the addon author would have gotten from users visiting their site to get the addon. Wowmatrix doesn't, as far as I'm aware even have a mechanism whereby an addon author may opt-out of having them distribute his addons.

any one here have any experience using curse gaming to update their addons? i have used it in the past and found it rather unreliable and always out of date. perhaps this has changed since i have last used it (its been prob 6 months).

Mmm, there is a thread on wowace.com started by the author of wowmatrix. A lot of authors tries to opt-out in the thread but I still see their addons listed by the application. What I find a shame about it is that it is the best addon-update application I tried. I also like jWowUpdater since it can be configured to handle curse and wowinterface as well (and thus auctioneer-addon from wowinterface), but its a bit more of a hassle to do it with that program. Then there is Wow UI Updater which seems very advanced. You can configure regular expressions to match on arbitrary webpages in its configuration to get addons from practically everywhere. But as you might guess you need a good bit of time to set it up.

i have both the jwowaceupdater and the regular wowaceupdater and for some reason i can update with the j version then check with the normal and it says they are all out of date and it updates all the files. i find it strange that i can run 3 different updaters and they all say something different is the "most up to date". i normally run jwowaceupdater, WAU, and wowmatrix.
i stopped running the java version of WAU as it seems like ti gets out of date addons. i would think it should get the same files as WAU but it doesn't seem to be the case so it has been put on hiastis for now. im currently trying to run only ace addons and am finding it a bit troublesome to get what i need out of them.

    Hi, guys.

First, in answer to this thread, WowMatrix says I have 216 addons. Guess I'm an addon addict.

Second, in reference to the new announcement on the front page, I'm concerned that WowMatrix might be the updater that is being referred to and which may be incurring the expense mentioned. I have set the updater to 'Ignore' Auctioneer and the separate modules you provide and have sent in another donation, though mine alone won't cover the costs mentioned. Are you able to confirm or deny that this is the updater referred to?

Thanks again for all you do.

We don't want to be a bunch of cry-babies and gossip about who did what.

Suffice to say that there were some updaters that were using our primary site (auctioneeraddon.com) to download from instead of the mirror.auctioneeraddon.com host.

This caused significant extra bandwidth that if it had been directed at the mirrors would not have caused us excess bandwidth charges.

The primary URL will now block this traffic and put up an Access Denied error page instead. It's not our preferred method of dealing with the issue, but unfortunately it looks like it will be the only way to get aforementioned updater writers to update their software.

This all started about 8 days ago, and it took us a while to notice, which is probably a bit our fault as well. If we had caught it in time, it wouldn't have cost nearly as much as it did.
