Just wondering, why is http://forums.norganna.org/discussion/8016 this happening? I mean, I personally prefer Classic over Advanced and I won't be upgrading.

We've actually explained this a zillion times over the past 6 or 12 months. I'll probably scrape together a post at some point explaining it and stick it.

    The short version:
1- AC is extremely difficult to keep working. It is prone to breaking in very hard to fix ways.
2- AC is not modular at all. No way to add pricing stats, new ways to search, etc.

3- Auctioneer Classic is currently broken in an almost impossible to fix way. When the data it stores overflows, you lose all of your scans, statistics, everything (like this poor guy). If this has ever happened to you, you've probably thought to write in to us and tell us to fix the damn problem. The good news is that we've found a really good way to fix the problem and it's taken us 2 years to do so. It's Auctioneer Advanced.

Thanks for your replies and I'm sorry if it's annoying. It's just that I love Classic. I tried Advanced once, found it too complex and deleted it in favour of Classic.

I wanna throw my 2 cents in here aswell. I am a code monkey and even I think this is too complex for its common usage. Advance or classic it doesn't matter it has one basic use which is to see the price of items when you get them and/or easily compair them before you post them, thats all.

I tried advanced and went straight back to classic long ago because it over-complicates a smaller design that contains a beautiful simplisity. For instance (rant) on the Appraiser screen: Seller; ok thats nice to have, left; nice, stk, nice but thats where it ends. Min, Curr, buy each; what the hell? this is something I would consider when buying not selling. What the heck does this even matter? When I goto sell I consider only other same level stacks and that price because thats my compitition. Bid and buy thats all the info required. All this other junk over complicates the process of simply selling.

Next if I wanna sell something I gotta price per each item? wth if I wanna sell a stack at a certain min bid/buy I gotta do the math to figure out how to get the prices where I want them? useless. I put 1 stack of 20 silk cloth on appraise and the bids I saw were 1:10 stack of this for 50s somehow appraiser issued my 20 stack at 2g wtf?

Look guys I know what advanced and classic were designed for. Advanced was/is for hardcore AHers who wanted to buy and sell to make some serious change but most of us wanna actually play the game we pay to play and don't need or want all this extra junk that over complicates just simply making room in my bags. I am genuinly upset by your choice to discontinue what I thought to be the public choice. If nothing else you could design a 'skin' or alternate GUI for advanced that simplifies the process much like Novice and advanced mode.

As for advanced I will be deleting it shortly and won't be touching this program ever, its simply too much BS to work through selling a few items on AH.

    ~Chester

P.S. Same as Bomyne I never had any issues post patch that made classic buggy or crappy otherwise I simply wouldn't have used it up till this point.

I have to agree with Chester, Auctioneer Advanced is WAY overcomplicated. I mean you almosy need a business degree AND a math degree to figure out all the percentages and what they mean. I loved auctioneer clasic because it allowed me to keep track of the general idea of what things were going for. and when I sold things it would put in those prices for me. and it alos remembered a lot of times what I had sold things for in the past.

Is there any way for you guys to maybe make an autioneer lite? Maybe a stripped down version closer to how simplified Auctioneer classic was? Or at least make it so we can get rid of the things that we don;t like from advanced. like the percentages at the end of the item. and the number of items at the begining of each item?

I deal with mostly buying and selling weapons and armor and they don;t make stacks of those.

speaking of which If I have three of a particular item in my bags ai don;t always want to sell all three. but on the Appraisal tab unless I manually switch it every time it posts every one of the same items I have in my bag, I really don;t want to have to empty out my bags and store everying in my bank just to combat this.

Add another vote for the old Auctioneer!

I have tried Advanced 3 or 4 times now. Each time, I gave up on it in very short order, and went back to the rock-solid Classic version. And each time, I lost all my accumulated history, which was a big pain.

Well, with the 3.02 patch, just about everything broke. I spent all day trying to restore my addons, and when I got to Aucitoneer, was forced to download the latest and greatest.

    AND IT SUCKS!

Sorry, but all the comments above are valid, and then some. Some items it simply refused to post at all. Others it posted, but not at the prices and stack sizes I selected. In frustration I wound up splitting stacks and listing one at a time manually.

This is NOT what this addon was supposed to be all about. I am now going to loko around for some alternative, and if that fails, will be going without. I don't like this "advanced" thing one little bit, and from talking to others, there are a lot of people who feel the same way.

We understand that its dead, and why.

But you also need to understand that there is a desire and a need for a small, simple, uncomplicated solution. Call it Classic, call it Lite, call it whatever you want, but take the demand seriously.

And you need to understand that this addon is made by volunteers who have finite amounts of time, that *most* people who take the time to learn to use Advanced end up liking it just fine and begin to realize why design decisions are superior to the way Classic did things, and that (as a corollary to the volunteer point) things get coded as those with ability and interest get to them.

Things that are not going away: price per item, appraiser. Things that are probably not coming back include the post tab. There are JIRA issues for some of the more popular missing functionality, like pricing per stack, and the best way to get that included faster is to go over to JIRA, find the issue, and vote for it.

I've done my fair share of both voluteering and coding over the past 40 years, as well as a fair share of project management. I think I do understand.

But given that what those of us who hate this version want is less, not more, features, it should be achievable.

no its not possible. the way classic is coded is everything is dumped into one big file. that file has a limit on how big it can get. once it gets to big it dumps all the info and starts over. with all the new items with wotlk it would dump probably pretty much everytime you scanned the ah if that is what you want then by all means find a fix for it.

as it has been stated before its no longer supported by the auctioneer team.

What does the UI have to do with the engine underneath? You can store stuff any way you like, just give us the option of having the interface the way we like it, that's all.

The old Post tab did everything I wanted. the new Appraiser tab does not. Simple as that.

Code is code, either way, and from the perspective of the code base, every thing that's been asked for works out to more features, as it's code that isn't there currently. It sounds like you've got familiarity with code. You're more than welcome to tackle it yourself if you want a change before the team has time to consider and implement it.

Basicly what I think people are asking for is a dumbed down version of Auctioneer for those of us who don't have business and math degrees. the main thing I wanted from my auctioneer was to be able to remember how much things sell for, show that when I pick something up or look at it in AH, and not have too MUCH information. just keep things tidy and help me keep track of stuff.

ok 1) auctioneer remembers what you price things for its called the fixed price

    2) for the extra info you can turn off what you don't want to show in the tootips.

    3) once again take the time to look through the options. its all there. advanced is extremely customizable almost everything can be turned off or on at your discretion. there are help menus and hover over tooltips on almost every box in the addon.

yes I know but it is very confusing, because while you can turn things off or on, half the time you have no idea what it is you are turning on or off. I did figure out how to go back to the classic look kind of while searching through items, you turn off the Small Ui thing. and that was a GREAT thing. I liked it a lot

OK, I'm back, this time on another machine, so I can refer to the game as I type. Yes, I did turn on Simple(ton) view. But..

    - Click a tab, any tab, and get an error message, "Error while calling hook for: AuctionFreameTab_OnClick. (plus another 12 lines or so I'm not going to type here)

    - Prices and Quantitites keep resetting apparently randomly. Tab between Qty and Stack size and the number does not highlight. You have to backspace, type the number, tab out and it changes back.

    - You can't tab through from prices to quantities like in Classic.

    - I just told it to list FOUR single Mageweaves at 99.99 each, and it went and listed 20 at 5g39, costing me a deposit I didn't want to pay.

    - Dropdown menus mean extra mousing/clicking. I want a button that says "USE MY PRICE". To be fair, Classic didn't have this either, and it was a pain, but at least the option was there in the dropdown menu.

    - Us old farts with bad eyes really really have a hard time with the microscopic writing.

    - Am I the ONLY one who uses the two side action bars? The Sidebar probably contains lots of lovely details that might make sense if they weren't A) tiny and B) hidden behind my buttons.

    - And while on the subject of hard to read, could there be anything harder to read/comprehend than the Prices in the Browser window? I see a ton of empty space, unused columns (what's "Min" and "iLvl", and why do I care?), not to mention a Seller name that could all be made smaller to allow room for PRICES WE COULD READ!

As I've said before, none of this has anything to do with the underlying engine, which I'm sure does a marvellous job. It has to do with crappy design decisions in the UI. And having uber-customisability is all fine and dandy, but I don't want to spend a week learning what all the options are and how to set them. I expect things to come preconfigured sensibly, and I'm sorry to say this isn't.

    Add another point to that...

    - You enter a price as 49.99, and as soon as you tab out, it changes to 49.39. Then you have to go back and correct it.

Without those other lines, we have no idea if it's a problem with Auc, or a problem with another addon that's cascading down through Auc. If the error is popping up in Swatter, just clicking in the window will higlight the error, allowing you to copy and past the error here.

This seems to be behavior users are noticing after the patch that wasn't noticed before, and could possibly be a bug. *However*, it might not be a bug with AA. See my notes above.

    - Am I the ONLY one who uses the two side action bars? The Sidebar probably contains lots of lovely details that might make sense if they weren't A) tiny and B) hidden behind my buttons.

I use them, and don't have problems with the sidebar hiding behind those action bars, it's possible that it's a problem with your scale and resolution settings.

    - And while on the subject of hard to read, could there be anything harder to read/comprehend than the Prices in the Browser window? Again, that information is all information I use, and many other people use in their Auctioneering, and many, if not most, people can read the information just fine. If you haven't turned of CompacUI, it may be what you're looking for.

As I've said before, none of this has anything to do with the underlying engine, which I'm sure does a marvellous job. It has to do with crappy design decisions in the UI. Crappy design decisions to you are vast improvements to other people, and in this case, it's many other people. And as far as expecting things to come preconfigured "sensibly"... "sensibly" is relative, thus the customizablility.

Thank you, that helped. I guess we can get the look down to something we can live with, but the other hassles are still there.

Latest is I'm trying to list 10x Lesser Magic Essence. No matter what I do, the button remains greyed out... throw something else in there, the button lights up, put the essence back, it stays lit, enter the quantities and prices, press the button.... and it lists the whole stack in one shot, at half the price I entered!!!

    Aaaarrrgghh!

And it gets worse.. I just tried twice more, with the same result, then gave up, split the stack into 10 singles, entered 1 of 1, price, hit the button...

.. and it started reassembling the singles into one stack! And every time I reopen it it continues!

Time for a holiday from WoW I think :(

I usually have a part stack, and I always post singles only. When I put it in there, it defaults to All and the max stack size for the item. I then have to click in the fields and change them. Note that tabbing does not work as it fails to select all the content of the field. It is still picking its own prices, overriding what I type in, although tabbing through to that field again allows it to be fixed. Once posted, all fields then appear to be sticky regardless of character, server and faction, which is fine by me.

As to the error produced when clicking a tab, here it is in full (sorry to post it here, but it seemed sensible to keep it in the same thread for now). I only have a couple of addons which I know work with the new patch, and plan to wait a few more days before seeing if new versions of the rest are available yet. This behaviour was also happening with no other addons:

There's only a few things I've loved about Auctioneer Classic. The ability to scan the AH at one go and then search the auctions to snap up bargains on buyout or short to med bid time left, either for use or reselling. I realize BottomScanner is there to do pretty much the same thing in a more dynamic format, but I'm not sure where BottomScanner is getting its information. I've purchased things in its advice only to realize they're above current prices, or have a "very long" time left on the bid. This does me no good as then I have to take a loss in order to resell those items, or wait until the auction ends or I'm outbid, to get the item or my gold back. Not good for the fast turnover I like. Don't get me wrong, I love BottomScanner for sniping cross faction transfers (insert evil laugh), but I'm gonna miss that search Auction function of Classic. Maybe I'm just not using BottomScanner to its full potential, but then it's not very intuitive.

The other thing was if Classic had no data about a current item and I posted it in the Auction tab Classic would automatically mark it up 300% vendor price; a very nice baseline for making at least some profit off an item you have no other data about. As far as I know Advanced has no such feature.

if you select vendor markup as your secondary statistic it will work as you want. i just don't suggest it in general. (and i prefer having a different stat as secondary)

"The ability to scan the AH at one go and then search the auctions to snap up bargains on buyout or short to med bid time left, either for use or reselling." This is easily possible in AA, without BTM. Scan as normal, and use the resale searcher in SearchUI. make sure to set the "ItemTimeLeft" filter. (At the moment, you'll have to save it at the top of the screen, too. this will be fixed in a future version.)

Actually, what dinesh didn't mention is that in AucAdv it's even easier and faster, if one of the features works for you.
    Try the command '/auc getall'
That will scan the whole AH on one page, so it only takes a minute at most, then you can do a search on the new snapshot using SearchUI.
We don't have a button for the getall scan because it's not entirely stable quite yet. Some people get disconnected due to the high amount of server traffic it needs, so use at your own risk.

The disconnections appear to be directly related to the online population. At quiet times it works like a charm, but during peak hours I've been disconnected every time.

I'll see what happens without BTMSCAN. I'm guessing it was left over from the old version, yes? I was a bad boy and just threw the new one in there and let it overwrite the folders, so didn't realise.

Heh... yeah I noticed that when I used Classic to scan Advance would also be scanning (but didn't seem to really register the data in Appraiser) and I would get kicked. I solved that problem by doing the scan in two parts, simply unchecking every other category, scanning and then repeating for the unscanned ones. Thanks for the advice. I'll play around with it!

Yep, BtmScan isn't included in the current packages; it isn't aware of any rate limit on GetAuctionItemInfo name queries, so it can easily flood the server and get you kicked.
