I'd like to write a merge utility to combine auctioneer data files. I could go read the source code, but it would be easier for me to just get the data format for the file. Does anybody have pointers to docs that describe this or can lay it out for me.

I will write a utility to do the rest and possibly make some addon that merges in-game using a channel.

I imagine whoever wrote Auctioneer would know best, so if you're reading this, send me a message.

...or please post about it here rather than a private message. I'm just now trying to decode the format myself.

    Thanks!

I would imagine that reading the code and the data for yourself would not only give you the best idea about the format... but would also give you a damned good framework for how to process that data.

See the source for AuctionScan.pm Perl Module for the structure of the current file format.... or search this forum. It has been discussed many times.

I chatted with MentalPower and got all the info I need. The merge tool should be released within the next week.

If anyone needs help with the Auctioneer data format, just come to the irc channel ( irc://irc.datavertex.com/norganna)
NOTE: I will HELP you with understanding the data format, I will NOT spoon feed you, you need to have at least a basic understanding of Lua and Lua tables.

I have completed the merge tool and am now testing it. It seems to be working fine for me, but I want to get a bunch of data files and make sure it doesn't barf on version problems. I suppose I need to have someplace to release it as well.

Well... I have a 9.05 MB file I could donate

The tool has been posted on curse. It's called "Auctioneer Merge".

MentalPower: Could you send your data file to me at malex-cenarius@hotmail.com ?

If anybody else would like to send me their data files that would be cool.

I have downloaded Auctioneer Merge off of http://dl.qj.net/index.php?pg=12&fid=4238&catid=318 , because the one at Curse Gaming ( http://wow.curse-gaming.com/en/files/details/2271/auctioneer-merge/ ) says that "The compressed (zipped) folder is damaged or corrupt."

It gave me a thumbs-up, with
    [6:09 PM] Merge operation successful.
[6:09 PM] Merged file exists at: *snip*

However, I have a measly 1kb "merged file" which, upon trying to use auctioneer with it, hasn't seen anything at auction.

Just making sure you saw the dates on these posts... * Jan 2006

A lot has changed since then and AuctioneerMerge no longer works as far as I know.

    correct.

    Ohhh... drat.
Is it because auctioneer merge has been deemed against EUL/CoC? Or does it just need updating? I'd be willing to learn the basics of a scripting language to do it, as I have two accounts and it's really hard to always make sure to use the same account for my trading. Sometimes you just wanna swing on by the AH and toss off a world drop that you've got no use for, ya know?
I already know FORTRAN, QBASIC, visual basic, and a bit of C++... is Perl similar to any of those? Can I get my hands on the source code for auctioneer merge? I find it easier to reverse engineer something than to try to learn a language ground up, but it's been a loooong time.

I don't think AuctioneerMerge was a project from here. I believe some 3rd party put it together.

I am sure if you google it, you'd be able to find it.
