But you don't make money out of it (except by donation). You should put adsense, ypn, or kontera.

I'll help you put it for free.

That's my way of thanking you.]]>

Please note the download link is currently unavailable. Watcher needs some TBC updates to function properly, and the developers have been busy with Auctioneer and haven't had a chance to make any changes yet.

It is a work in progress, but if you wish to contribute, here is the download link.]]>

We like to do things well.

We feel that there's a lack of a truly community driven and personalized WoW information portal and we don't want to upset the big 3, but we think we can do something unique and raise the bar.

Not only that, but all of our addons are very heavily into the item information gathering, storing and displaying, and we find that we just can't easily get the information that we need to keep the data in our addons up-to date.

A good example of this is the Informant addon which is using a really old price database; we would love to put up-to-the minute accurate price data into every release of the addons, but it just isn't feasible yet.

What do we want you to do?

We want you to go to the watcher site and download the upload client for your platform (Windows and OSX supported, as well as the source code if you want to compile it yourself) to send your data to our site.

We know that it's a risk for you to download our binaries and install them on your computer, that's why we provide the source code. So you can see exactly what the application is going to do. You can take our source code and compile it yourself after you've checked it over if you want to do it that way... Heck you can even adapt it to your own purpose and re-release it for your own website (as long as it remains open-source).

If anyone wants to investigate the source and post your findings in this forum, we would totally welcome that too. It might convince people that there's no keyloggers in our code.

How to upload

Start up the application, click the "..." button, search for your wow directory, click the "Enable reading of WoW data files contents" checkbox, click upload, close the app.

It doesn't do anything tricky like hang around after you close it, do automatic updates, or install anything without asking you (heck, it doesn't even install anything at all)

If you want to install a companion addon and are running on TBC or the current WoW 2.0 PTR, you can also install our companion addon which collects information from in the game. Stuff that can't be collected from the game files. You can get this addon from http://media.wowwatcher.com/addon/Watcher-1.0.34.zip if you want to try it out.

Thanks.]]>

We've taken this stance as we have always believed in the openness and principles of the open-source software movement and want to assure you, our supporters that we will never sell out to gold farmers, and that when you contribute your hard-work to this project, you will *always* have access to the work that you have contributed.]]>

Is that all I need to do? Do I have to do that everyday or every week, or am I done?]]>

Changelog:

* Changed cache directory from Data/*/WDB to Cache/WDB/* in line with WoW 2.0 PTR client changes.
Note: TBC users should continue to use 1.06 until it's patched to this behaviour.

* Add upload progress meter support.
The client will now display a progress bar indicating how much data is uploaded (not how much was downloaded as before)

* Reduced overly much statusbar updating during file parsing to speed up startup.
Previously it was displaying a status message every time it read an item from the cache which was slowing the program's operation a great deal.

PTR and Live users may download the new version at http://wowwatcher.com/data.
TBC players should continue to use 1.06 for the time being :)]]>
