Appraiser and Post questions
  • daysdays July 2009
    1. Is there a way to have Appraiser use an undercut value (like in the Post tab) based on the current competition instead of just the various Stats pricing modules? I'm trying to take advantage of the Batch Post option but still do pricing the way I was on the Post tab.

    2. In the Post tab, can I set up preferences so that the "Stacks: (number x size)" defaults the other direction? I.e. I'd like the number of stacks to be max and the size to be 1 (mine currently has 1 stack and max available for the size).

    3. When undercutting (in the Post tab), is there a way to undercut the "Starting price" (or min bid) amount by a different percentage than the buyout price? For example, I'm currently undercutting the competition by 15% but would rather have my min bid undercut by only a minimal amount (say, 1%).

Thanks a bunch for the help.

    1) yes it always is based off the competition. if you want it to go further you have to adjust it to do so. try 100% if you want to undercut everyone (not recommended though).

    2) not sure as I'm not in game and don't use the post tab. if you want more Functionality when posting use appraiser.

    3) no we don't modify the bid price at all. it is derived from the buyout and set by % i do believe.

once again the post tab is designed to be a low option straight forward posting page with little options. if you want more control of stuff we have appraiser for that.

1 and 2 would be really nice. Appraiser is nice, but it seems to be capped at 2x market value, which if your items fluctuate a lot depending on availability can sometimes be 300~400% less then you need. Simple example is market price for a glyph of heroic strike's market price is about 2 gold, but they suddenly started selling for 20 gold this week which means if I use appraiser I have to manually set it. Individually not an issue but I deal with hundreds of different types of items and this happens quite often. Maybe I'm just missing a setting somewhere though. I want to undercut by just a few 1~2%, not by 300%.

Which is odd because Post does exactly just that. It always undercuts the current auctions by a set %. This is great, but every time I use post for a few stacks of items I don't feel like adding to batch posting the only fields I end up having to adjust is stack size and quantity.

It just seems ironic. Appraiser lacks the "undercut current items by x%" function which post has, while post lacks the "set default stack size" option that appraiser has. =p

With all the time auctioneer saves me I wouldn't normally complain and only sing praises, but these two features would make life sooooooooooo much better.

#1 is already in place. appraiser doesn't lack that functionality at all. just set up your undercut settings properly.

i think #2 already exists too, but as with matt, i don't ever use the Post tab so my memory is hazy.

Hmm, I have the same problem. What could I do that Appraiser undercuts the current competitors price the same way like "Post" does?

    Thanks in advance.

    1) Appraiser uses the Auc-Match-Undercut module for its undercut settings (noone has mentioned it yet in this thread). Look under Match Modules in the config menu, and make sure it is enabled.
(Also, in the General config tab, look for the Matcher Order dropdown and make sure Undercut comes after BeanCounter. We really need to fix this some time...)
Then in Appraiser, look for the Enable Price Matching checkbox.

    2) There is no way (that I can find) to change default stack settings in the Post (SimpleAuction) tab.
If you turn on Remember Price, it looks like it tries to remember the stack settings too, but it doesn't work properly, and you probably didn't want fixed prices anyway.

    3) The Bid price on the Post tab is usually set to 80% of the Buyout except when you use Undercutting (or when you alter the prices manually).
When you Undercut, it actually does look for the lowest bid price and undercuts that by the same percentage or amount as is used for the Buyout - sorry there is no setting to make them different.
I've always thought this was undesirable, as it means that if anyone has accidentally posted with a bid price of a few copper, SimpleAuction will try to undercut it, making Undercut a little unsafe on occasion.
Note that Appraiser (like much of the rest of Auctioneer) is designed solely around the Buyout price, so it can't do any special handling on Bid prices like that.

The whole Post tab behaves in an undesirable manner if you are willing to spend time understanding what Appraiser is doing. It was designed for people who don't want to have to think as much while posting auctions, but the result is lower profitability.
