About the announcement regarding AucDB

    Hey Norganna -

I noticed your announcement, and all I can point out is that a lot of people (myself included) didn't even know it existed. I'm probably a fair representative of the average player... I download an updated Auctioneer addon on patch day, and that's about it. I rarely visit the site itself itself unless I'm looking for tech support for a particular issue, and that's probably what happened with the AuctioneerDB. It's a great idea on paper, but it relies on people actually taking the time to collectively work on it. Some will, but realistically most won't.

Auctioneer is a must have, plain and simple. AuctioneerDB in an online form, is not. Great for the hardcores, but way too geeky for the average person who is just looking to get a quick price on Runecloth.

That said, it's a great concept "on paper", just not something that is likely to get a lot of actual people actively working on. In essence, you're competing with the thottbott's and wowhead's that already have a generic bit of information on item prices, which is usually close enough for most people. After all, most people don't actually buy epics (or whatever) on one server then transfer to another for the sake of making a profit. It's good info, but not actually of practical use to 99% of the player base. The exception wuold be for people with Ally and Horde on the same server, but really, it's just as easy to log onto your horde alt and scan the AH.

Just my two cents, of course... not trying to discourage you, just interjecting an outsider's point of view. As a developer myself, I know what you mean about being too close to see things objectively when it comes to your own projects.
