Glypher

Any chance that Glypher will ever get picked up and supported with Auctioneer again? I use it every day but with this new patch it seems to be bugging out.

The original Glypher developer is no longer playing, but the chance exists that one of our current developers may pick up Inscription at some point and want to give a shot at getting it updated. No ETA on that, though, sorry.

Aww, well thank you for the quick response and for all the hard work you guys are doing on the rest of the addon.

I've started playing again, but I'm not sure for how long. If I continue to play past the MoP release, I may take up development again.

I'm using Glypher currently, and not having any problems with it. If you can provide more details, maybe we can figure it out. :)

There are a few things that arent working great for me. Getting the what-to-make list to behave the way I would like it to seems impossible and I end up going through all my glyphs to double check what I should make and if the suggestions are actually worth making after all. The problem seems to be that the glypher pricing model doesn't look to see if there are lower glyphs up for sale, but just sees that the price it would set is the max price and so the profit is high enough for you to make one. It checks the sales history I guess, but that isnt helpful if I just dumped the price on a glyph to sell it off but dont want to continue to sell them as the prices in general are too low.

Maybe some of my settings are wrong and thats why I am seeing funky things, I dont know!

Thanks for considering taking up development however!

Disclaimer: I'm not currently playing, so I wasn't able to check any of this in-game - it's all based on what I remember and see in the code. Also, I have a flu, so please excuse me for typos and not making any sense.

I looked at the Glypher code to see what could be going on in this case.

Although the Glypher pricing model doesn't take into account competition (other than it's competition-specific features, like undercut/overcut), Glypher itself lowers the evaluated price on a glyph when determining profitability for making the glyph based upon the lowest competitor. (You can search Glypher.lua for "buyoutMin" - that's where it starts this evaluation.)

Glypher then checks to make sure if the glyph is profitable to your minimum profit allowed (based upon the lower of the weight-evaluated pricing or current lowest auction), and if it is profitable, continues to evaluating how many to make.

If, when you do an AH scan, there happens to be none of the glyph in question that you previously dumped, then Glypher will likely want to make them. Turn on the debug tooltip (in the Glypher configuration) and it will show you how many of a glyph it wants to make, and some other cryptic information. If the case when it's making them *is* that there are no competitors on the AH, you might try adjusting the Beancounter weight in the pricing model up. This will cause the pricing model to put more weight on Beancounter's pricing data, but then again, once the beancounter data for the glyph in question rolls past the "considered sales" option you might suddenly start making them again...so probably not the best option.

Make sure you have the "hardminstock" and "make maxstock" options set to OFF. These are hidden options that default to OFF. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to check these settings without toggling them, so if memory serves me right, do the following in chat in the game, doing each twice if necessary until it reports "is now OFF":
    /auc util glypher makemaxstock
    /auc util glypher hardminstock

Unfortunately, Glypher was designed when glyphs sold like hot-cakes and mass posting was the norm, so evaluating "bad" glyphs based upon expiration was fairly accurate. When I played for a month recently (just before MoP) it was working fine for me, but then having taken a break from WoW for two years, I was still in my old mode of posting every single glyph (unless I wasn't undercut) twice a day on three glyph-posting alts, so I had plenty of room for glyphs without micromanaging.

I hope that at least some of this makes some sort of sense. If you can't find a solution, post links to images of a specific glyphs (debug) tooltip, the AH scan page, the appraiser page, and your Glypher settings and I'll do my best to try and figure out how to help.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I was searching for this very info.

weltmeister, since Glypher still isn't in the auctioneer suite, is it because you have not gotten back into playing or because you took a look at it and had no interest in reviving the utility?

If it's only a lack of playing and you have any interest at all in getting it fixed (or, if he doesn't, one of the other addon wizards around here!), can you give me an idea what information is useful?

For example, do you need to know how and where it breaks, general error messages, or other info? I'm happy to help in any way I can but I never did figure out the LUA language.

I do have mild experience in working with other code and am generally not a derp, so if I can help get this going again for my own use and all the other folks who adored it, I'm eager to!

to the best of my knowledge he hasn't come back to the game more than briefly.

if you'd like to chip in, please do! we're always looking for developers to join our team as well. join us in our irc channel and ask of the the dev ops for more info.
