Sales Stats Missing From Tooltip
  • ScarlettScarlett September 2012
When patch 5.0.4 hit, I decided to completely uninstall my add-ons, opting to delete the folders in their entirety and not making any backups, as I wasn't sure if there would be compatibility issues. So I started fresh with the newest version of Auctioneer and made sure to do daily full scans for a week to allow AH data to propagate. I've noticed though that even after 7+ days of successive scans, Sales Stats data never shows up in my tooltip. I've checked and re-checked that the option to turn on these stats are all checked under both Core Options and Stat Modules. I've tried turning on/off all the other stats to see if there's a comparability issue, but Histogram, StdDev, Purchased, etc all seem to work just fine. However I know I'm getting incomplete data because it will show that I sold something 10 times under Purchased Stats in the tooltip, but Sales Stats data is non-existent. Certainly if I personally had unique buyers purchase an item, that should be factored as a Sales Stat.

Does Sales Stats data only show up after an extended period of time? Are there other settings I could try tweaking for a better result? I've tried a wide variety of items - from flasks with steady selling volume to random green BoE items - but if you look at the tooltip, you would think that the item in question had shown up a number of times on the AH, but that no buyer had ever purchased the item. Please advise!

Well Stat-Purchased relies on data from scans, it is looking and seeing that something is missing from the scandata that wasn't set to have expired yet and assumes that that item sold.

Stat-Sales on the other hand relies on BeanCounter and BeanCounter's database.

They don't really talk to each other. The thing being that Stat-Sales is much more accurate (because it is based off of recorded sales/buys by you), while Stat-Purchased can and often is poisoned by people canceling auctions early (often for entirely legitimate reasons such as undercutting a competitor).

I would check BeanCounter, look up those items and see if it has them recorded as sales.

EDIT: Also check your BeanCounter configuration and make sure the option to allow external addons to use BeanCounter, is enabled.

If that option is enabled and you can see in BeanCounter that the item(s) in question are recorded as Success. Then please take a screenshot or screenshots of the BeanCounter window with the success result visible and of the full item tooltip of the item in question. Upload these to dlftw.com and post the link to them in your reply.

Hello! So sorry, I confused the names of the stats in my original post. To clarify, Stats-Sales (meaning, the statistics of items that I've personally sold on the AH) shows up just fine in my tooltips. Stats-Purchased (times/prices an item has been sold *by someone else* on the AH) are the ones perpetually missing.

I previously utilized Stats-Purchased every time when determining which items flip on the AH. But now that I can't get that data, I'm a bit lost. As said, I can look at the tooltip for an item that I've previously sold numerous times, and nothing shows up under Sales-Purchased - which means Auctioneer is simply not returning that tooltip as it should be. I suspect this might be linked to the fact that I can no longer do the fast GetAll searches (owning to the same freezing/DC issues that have been reported in other threads), so maybe the full scan isn't sourcing this data correctly? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

as described above, stats-purchased is fed by items which disappear from the AH before they could have expired. are you sure the items you're looking at have been scanned often enough that this has happened a bunch of times? it's entirely possible you just need to scan more before that stat will start returning a value.

i would also suggest caution when using this stat. as user632 mentioned, this stat can easily be skewed by people who cancel/relist an item a lot.

Unfortunately Stat-Purchased is probably the Stat that suffers the worst if you can't do solid GetAll scans, or if you are getting incomplete scans due to server problems.

Auctioneer can't detect auctions that disappeared early in incomplete scans, and errs on the side of caution with most paged (non-getall) scans when deciding if an auction has really disappeared.

With the current state of the servers, Stat-Purchased is probably just not getting the info it needs to work.

The 5.0.5 patch on beta looks more stable, fingers crossed, let's hope it rolls soon :)

Side note: the above problems will probably continue to afflict people on very large AuctionHouses, where Blizzard limits the GetAll results. Unless they fix that too.

I'll add especially in very competitive markets with very competitive sellers that many of these people will take down their auctions and re-post them multiple times in a day in response to being undercut by others doing the same. I've seen this apply equally in consumables markets and rare world drop recipes. The consumables just tend to be closer to reflecting actual selling prices due to higher sales volumes/demand while people may unrealistically price recipes or other low volume, rare and/or low demand/supply items and often un-list and re-list while trying to find a price level (or poisoning).

Really good points; was very sad when the GetAll scans started producing freezing and disconnects, though I certainly suspected that it was owing to the patch versus anything that had gone amiss with the plugin. But that was an important observation re: the Stats-Purchased being skewed by people taking down auctions early. I guess I'll just try my luck on things more often, see how they go. It's tempting to fill up my ever-so scarce bank slots with BoE greens, but their lack of stackability always gets me shaking my fist at the screen. First World Problems, hey? ;)

    Thanks again for your help!

Hopefully it doesn't remain a problem.

P.S. A trick is to fill up a mail with 12 items, mail it from the toon that would be keeping it to another toon of yours (preferably one you don't play or one whose mailbox you can afford to fill up) and it will then sit there for 30 days, you can return it at any time easily or wait and 30 days later it will be back with an expiration time of 30 more days. Giving you 60 days of storage time. If you have an alt to spare that doesn't use mail at all then you have a potential storage space of 600 slots. And the best part is mailing things is dirt cheap.
