Please allow us to filter based on a percentage of wowhead listed item value.

I'm getting back into wow after having stopped playing from a long time ago, and I've noticed that these days people try a tactic known as "poisoning" the auction house to deliberately harm others' scan data. As far as I know once my data has been poisoned there is no way to rectify it other than deleting the entirety of my scan data.

I think one way to circumvent "poisoners" is to allow a filter, unchecked by default, that will allow us to filter any results that are, let's say, over 400% of wowhead's listed item value.

This would allow for another level of control against those who would use unsavory auction tactics and should be relatively simple to implement.

we already have a filter that ignores auctions that are overpriced by some amount (i think it's 200%).

part of the issue is that it doesn't work right away, because there has to be a base "real" price first, and we don't have that price to start with until you've done a few scans. so if it's poisoned from the getgo, you're kinda screwed. unfortunately, we don't have access to wowhead's item value from in game (and values tend to vary by server anyway).

Yeah I know values tend to vary, but you can leave choosing how accurate wowhead is compared to your server up to the player's discretion. Unfortunately it seems implementing it would be more difficult than I thought. Maybe the player could input data on items he or she wants to sell most manually and there could be an option to filter out anything that varies too much from that based on a slider.

The best thing for it is scanning often. For weeks on end, and if you notice certain item's values are really skewed and stay that way, resetting them individually with /auc clear [itemlink]

Wowhead's prices, being global and I'm guessing averaged in some way are in no way accurate to the degree that I think they would provide any usefulness at this point (I only refer to them to check droprates and comments these days). If you're looking for some sort of online DB of prices, undermine journal comes to mind (and they do have an Auctioneer plugin, search curse; however these things require updating often to remain accurate).

Server economies do vary wildly. It really is worth your time to take the time to scan and understand (if just a little) the economy you are working with.
On serverA, the demand and supply situation might be such that itemX is worth and regularly sells for 1000g.
On serverB the situation is such that it sells for 500g.
On serverC it is such that due to farmers and large supply to weak demand it only sells for 150g.

Now then if you are on serverA, if you're looking at an average of all the prices it is bringing what you think you should sell for down. Meaning you are making less than you could be. This is the worst case scenario because you are actually losing out on potential profit.
Another scenario might be you are on serverC, you look at the average and due to serverA's pricing (and serverB's as well) it it skewed upward, you probably think there is something seriously wrong with all the other sellers on your server and hold back, thinking perhaps the market will recover, mistakenly so. (edit: obviously this is all very simplified)

One last thing, enabling the user to filter data based on a number they (not the market) sets only serves to insulate them from reality and ultimately if their numbers are too high or too low above the actual market: deprive them of sales or profit. You're only lying to yourself with something like that. Just because I as a seller want to sell itemY for a certain amount, or I have in the past, does not change the (ever shifting) market reality and it does not make my item and pricing look any more attractive to them despite what it looks like to me.
(There is however an option in appraiser to list by fixed price (which is the last price you manually set for an item in appraiser) or sales (based on past sales numbers).)

Auc-Filter-Outlier has a dropdown to select a different price model.
If you have a plugin that provides fixed prices you can select that model.
You may need to tweak other settings, such as disabling the Seen Count check and increasing the percentage sliders from the default.

e.g. http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/auc-stat-theunderminejournal if it still works
I'm not sure if there is a WoWHead plugin anywhere though.

To be clear, the nice people at the undermine journal seem to have a lot more data to work with than wowhead (they scan globally multiple, multiple times a day). And are a lot more accurate, but there are still a few inherent caveats (being the deviations between realms).

To further clarify, to use their data with Auctioneer you need two (2) addons, the first is the auc-stat plugin brykrys mentioned, the other is the data

The above link is for the GE (or general edition), this is something they update every day or so and I believe if you neglect updating it for a while (not sure I remember how long) it disables itself.
